“Mom, be a girl again"

“Mom, be a girl again”.

Read an advertisement on Amazon. Tears rolled from my eyes when sitting on my verandah, I grew nostalgic recalling a moment of life. That moment was my millennial princess handed over to me something, something that has stood very precious. She won my heart that day. And I am here just because of her.

Wondering what did she give to me? And where am I?

Hold on. Let me take you….

To the day, where I trekked a bold mountain for the first time in my life. I was 13 and had always imagined tall skyscrapers as my world. My childhood Sundays, so far as I remember, were either taken up for a visit to greatest nearby monuments or my dancing class or by Papa’s surprise weekly visits since he had to stay in another city for work. Ah...Yes...Pretty much that’s it. Of course, I loved it, and I would innocently conclude that that is my world, where life exists, where humanity exists. Till date, I would chuckle at my weird imagination and tell such stories to my children. But it was one day, where my by description but one of the most beautiful cities in India I have ever been to. I chirped like a bird, roamed like a free girl, felt the dewdrops on my little hands, smelt the lovely sweet roses, traveled with palms open in a toy train, had succulent momos with my cousins, and the most amazing part- The trek. Papa told me that I walked for 10kms at a go! I remember I would throw a lot of tantrums to walk just 1 kilometer back home. And this was steep as well. I fairly think that this particular incident hooked me up even after years that rolled by. Indeed, mountain traveling had stolen my soul.

A few years later, my heart was stolen too. Yes, I got married, had beautiful and caring kids and here I am in my early 40s, enjoying every bit that life has to offer me. A week back, it was my 42nd birthday. I had no plans to celebrate in a grand manner and neither did my family. The day was just going well when my daughter (I would now call her a super mind reader too) handed me an envelope. What I saw next was like my dream come true after so long.

Okay! I would not keep you in suspense anymore.

It was an all women 15 days travel ticket to Leh Ladhakh managed solely by “Women’s special tours”! That was unbelievable. I was totally dumbstruck for a moment. It was like a solo trip, but not so solo. A pure moment of happiness.

As I am writing this story as my travel blog sitting a thousand miles away and cherishing every moment from this icy tip with my wonderful co-passengers, I feel so blessed and fortunate enough to behold the nature so closely, to be like a free girl again. My new friend Aarti, still gets envious of my trekking skills. I climbed the high-desert city of Himalayas, young at heart, and age? It’s just a number, right?
