How a woman became a great storyteller

“Mom and Dad, this is the best birthday gift that I could have ever asked for! My friends and I had such a great time in that storytelling session. Ma’am is just mesmerizing!” Such are my teaching days at Kathalaya, a children storytelling classes in my city. You know you are at a right place when the work you do brings a feeling of fulfillment within you. Those joyous faces of the tiny tots, amused by the twist and turns of the stories that I share with them, brings utmost contentment and happiness to me. It is this reason that makes me love the art of storytelling.

Often, parents and teachers would have one common question for my skill. They are very curious to know the “source” of my stories. Of course, I tell them jokingly – it’s a secret!

TRAVEL

Yes, that’s my mantra. That’s where I weave my stories. That’s where I pick my stories. In short, Travel is my story.

For me, the logic is quite simple. I live in an urban setup. I breathe as a professional, my schedule is tight, home food is a luxury as much as a rarity and skyscrapers represent my success quotient. Yoga, exercise, marathon- Check. But what about experiencing inner peace? Soul quest? And the fresh air intake?? That’s the bigger question I aim to solve while I travel.

Today, whenever my little seekers ask me to tell them stories, with a deep breath my mind wanders off to those cheerful moments I spent with my co-travelers, the night-long meaningful conversations with like-minded people, young at heart ladies who make my trip special- every time. I see such vigor in their eyes, a clear goal to win the world, and be a better person each day. Time spent with those lovely people, just flies away like sand. Journals, of course, are the commonest article that we all carry along with us. Every time something deep strikes us, we make it a point to jot it down in beautiful words, words that I narrate skillfully to my little innocent little buds and make them in awe of my adventures. Some are moralistic too, but every story carries guaranteed fun.

I am sure you must be wondering hard about what kind of co-travelers am I talking about, isn’t it?

That’s an interesting story altogether. We are a group of an all-women clan, who travels together to the same destination. Yes, you heard that right! An All-Women group.

The concept itself is very innovative and smart. As a storyteller, my trip experiences get enormously enhanced by people with whom I travel. Ladies of all age and background can form a group and engage themselves to travel to different places together. Consequently, that makes my learning even richer and safer. There are companies that cater specifically to make an all-women journey memorable, efficient and worthwhile. Personally, I choose to travel with “Women Special Tours” each time and have found their arrangements fantastic, to be precise. They make sure of all your comforts and ensure to redress any challenge faced during our trip.

And as far as my contribution is concerned, I give them the smile that I take it from nature. Isn’t it how nature works too? Give and Take :)
